  • Pale or blue gums
  • Rapid or labored breathing
  • Weak or racing pulse
  • Seizures
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Inability to stand
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Hit by a car or trauma
  • Suspected poisoning
  • Sudden, severe pain
  • Vomiting or diarrhea with blood

How to Safely Transport an Injured Pet

Even the gentlest pet may bite or lash out when in pain. Here are a few tips for safely getting them to us:

  • Large dogs: Use a towel or blanket as a stretcher, and try to keep their neck and spine stable.
  • Cats or small pets: Gently cover their head with a towel to prevent bites, and place them in an open-topped box or carrier.
  • Bleeding wounds: Apply firm, steady pressure with a clean cloth or bandage while on your way to our hospital.
